Star Signs - Reasons Why Your Horoscope / Zodiac Sign May Not Describe You

What is a Star Sign

Simply put your Star Sign, or Sign of the Zodiac as it is also called, is the sign which the Sun was passing through at the time of your birth.

It's widely known that there are 12 Signs of the Zodiac: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pieces. In calendar terms the signs cover the period from roughly the 21st of one month to the 20/21st of the next i.e. Aries is generally understood to be March 21st - April 20th and Taurus from April 21st - May 21st.

Each sign has certain traits associated with it such as stubborn Taureans or critical Virgos, and each sign is also associated with one of the 4 elements, air, earth, fire and water in the following way:

Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Earth Signs: Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

The 'I'm nothing like my star sign' problem arises when people read their horoscope using this information alone ~ and that's like trying to read a book when at least half the letters are missing and in the wrong order ~ it's inaccurate.

Star Signs Don't Flip at Midnight

Imagine you're a twin and you were born at 11.59pm on 20th April while your twin was born at 12.01am on 21st April. 2 people born just 2 minutes apart and which technically fall under two different star signs. Do you really expect them to have wildly different personalities? ~ probably not. In fact from an astrological point of view their personalities should be remarkably similar because star sign personalities do not flip over at the point of midnight once a month ~ they change gradually over a few days.

This means that unless you're born within the middle 2 weeks of a month you are more than likely going to have traits of more than one star sign. For example if you're born during the last few days of Aries you may have all the passionate leadership qualities of that sign coupled with the Taurean trait of sometimes digging your heels in.

So if you were born within a week of another signs dates it's always worth reading the horoscopes for both signs to get a more balanced view.

However even with this it's perfectly possible to see very little compatibility between you and your star sign as you're still only looking at half the story.

Moon Signs ~ The Missing Link

Whereas star (or sun) signs are the outward representation of who we are, our moon sign governs how we live our day to day lives and finding out your moon sign can often explain why you believe you are so different from your sun sign.

Unfortunately moon signs are not easy to work out as they are not static in the way sun signs are, however there are plenty of programmes available on the Internet which will allow you to work out your moon sign. Generally you will need to know your date and time of birth and location or time-zone.

Often learning your moon sign can be like finding the missing part of a puzzle and a helpful tool in understanding your personality further ~ though it won't make those tabloid daily horoscopes any more relevant.
